Southeast Asia WWT

One of Southeast Asia’s largest and most advanced wastewater treatment facilities—serving over 5 million residents and 17 million tourists annually—faced a clear challenge: maintain high throughput while reducing energy consumption and operational costs. The utility needed a solution that could meet strict public-sector standards for efficiency, reliability, and value. They turned to Ingersoll Rand’s Robuschi brand to upgrade their anaerobic digestion systems with high-performance biogas blowers.

Maximizing Efficiency in Southeast Asia WWT

What Was the Challenge?

The facility needed to:

  • Improve energy efficiency across its anaerobic digestion process.
  • Reduce downtime and maintenance costs.
  • Meet environmental targets by repurposing methane emissions.

Anaerobic digestion is central to their treatment process, converting sewage sludge into biogas through four stages: hydrolysis, acidogenesis, acetogenesis, and methanogenesis. The methane produced is reinjected into digesters to accelerate microbial activity, and excess methane is used to power equipment across the plant.

What Was the Solution?

Robuschi supplied six ROBOX ES_35/2C-BIOATEX-2-PED blowers, each delivering:

  • Flow rate: 390 m³/h
  • Pressure: 810 mbar(g)

These blowers circulate biogas within the digesters, creating a methane-rich environment that speeds up digestion. The ROBOX packages are ATEX-certified (EC guideline 94/9/EC – group II, category 2), making them safe for biogas applications. They support pressures up to 1000 mbar(g), vacuum up to 500 mbar(g), and capacities up to 2,850 m³/h.

What Was the Outcome?

  • Energy savings: Significant reduction in power consumption.
  • Operational reliability: Lower maintenance and downtime.
  • Sustainability: Methane reuse reduced environmental impact.
  • Support: Local inventory and factory-trained service teams provided fast response and peace of mind.
