Liquid Ring Pumps and Compressor Systems

Robuschi liquid ring pumps use a proven operating principle and robust construction. Depending on the system configuration, they can handle vacuum or gas-compression duties: the pump draws gas in, compresses it, and discharges it. The right setup depends on the required pressure and process conditions. These systems also offer low water consumption, low noise and vibration levels, and straightforward maintenance.

The range includes:

  • CRVS vacuum pumps, compact systems, coupled with the electric motor with elastic joint transmission. The CRVS base has been specifically designed to ensure high rigidity and low vibrations.
  • LRVS systems which are equipped with belt and pulley transmission, a patented oscillating motor suspension device, which helps to reduce the load on the pump and motor bearings, maintaining constant belt tension over time. The belt coupling allows for the selection of the vacuum pump at the optimal speed, thereby ensuring the correct flow rate needed for the system, without any waste of energy.
  • KRVS units that are equipped with a separation tank for the partial recirculation of the service liquid and the related connection pipes (/P). In the total recirculation version (/T), the units are equipped with a heat exchanger. The separator tank also functions as a muffler for the pump's exhaust noise. The partial recirculation units (/P) are designed to recover a good portion of the operating liquid used to feed the pump. The complete KRVS units with total recirculation (/T) are especially suitable in the case of contaminated gases and/or liquids, with consequent disposal problems.
  • L‑SVT / L‑SVG Systems – systems equipped with monoblock pump versions, offering compactness and efficiency.

In these cases, it is necessary to feed the pump in a closed circuit and cool the liquid through the heat exchanger. This prevents contact between the cooling fluid and the liquid itself. The complete units with Robuschi vacuum pumps are the optimal solution in numerous industrial processes, even in critical applications, such as the discharge of wet gases or vapors. They also ensure negligible water consumption, low noise levels, reduced vibrations, and minimal maintenance.

Whether using monoblock or lantern pumps, or complete systems such as CRVS, LRVS, KVRS, or L‑SVT/L‑SVG, Robuschi offers high‑efficiency, low‑maintenance, and environmentally conscious vacuum solutions for numerous industrial processes.

Operating Principle of Vacuum Pumps

A liquid ring pump uses a rotating sealing liquid and an impeller to move gas and create a vacuum. In the RVS series, the single-stage pump has an automatic discharge valve and a cylindrical element containing an eccentrically rotating impeller. Centrifugal force moves the service liquid, usually water, into a ring around the element. As the impeller rotates, the changing space between its blades and the liquid ring draws gas in through the front inlet. The pump then compresses the gas and discharges it through the outlet.

Liquid ring vacuum pumps require a clean sealing liquid, free of suspended solids, to support reliable operation. The liquid’s temperature also affects vacuum performance: warmer liquid can reduce the vacuum the pump can achieve, though the effect depends on the process and system design. Maintain an appropriate supply temperature, and use recirculation cooling where required. Liquid replenishment, recirculation, treatment, and discharge arrangements vary by system configuration and operating conditions.

Application Sectors for Vacuum Pumps

Robuschi liquid ring vacuum pumps are available as RVS pumps, supplied bare-shaft or as complete groups such as CRVS and LRVS. These configurations serve a range of industrial applications. To select a suitable pump, consider the process gas, required capacity and pressure, operating conditions, and compatibility with the sealing liquid.  They can be installed in the food and beverage industry for processes such as degassing, oil refining, concentration systems, and impurity removal. In the chemical and pharmaceutical sector, Robuschi vacuum pumps and groups are found in processes of distillation, degassing, drying, and solvent recovery. In the plastics industry, liquid ring vacuum pumps are installed in degassing processes.

FAQs

Liquid ring pumps are better for wet processes and tolerate vapor and liquid carryover. Rotary vane pumps are more efficient in dry applications and offer tighter vacuum control.
